Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- Who Is #42 on Your Ahnentafel List?

Calling all Genea-Musings Fans: It's Saturday Night again - Time for some more Genealogy Fun!! Here is our assignment this week from Randy Seaver of Genea-Musing: 1)  Have you identified #42 on your ahnentafel list?  If not, how about #21 the mother of #42?  If not, how about #10 on your ahnentafel list?  Do you even have an ahnentafel list?  2)  Anyway, tell us about your #42 ancestor (or #21, or #10, etc.) - full name, parents, spouse, children, birth, baptism, death, marriage, burial, etc.  Here's mine: In my database, I placed my daughters into the number 1 position. If I check out who number 42 is with me in the number one spot, it comes to George Wilson Lancaster. I’m working on a project about that family and am not ready to write about him. So, I put my husband in the number one spot and his number 42 is his third great-grandfather, Edward Nicholas. At this writing, I didn’t know much about Edward, except for his marriage to Susan...

52 Ancestors--Old Country—Thomas Davey Family in Cornwall

This is my third year working on this year-long prompt, hosted by Amy Johnson Crow. I will write each week in one of my two blogs, either Mam-ma’s Southern Family or at My Trails into the Past. I have enjoyed writing about my children’s ancestors in new and exciting ways. The old country for the Davey family was County Cornwall, England.  Thomas Davey , my husband’s second-great-grandfather, was born in County Cornwall, England on 3 September 1807. [1] He was baptized in Camborne, Cornwall on 7 November 1807 and his parents were James & Elizabeth Davey. [2] Thomas Davey married Mary Nicholas on 23 May 1832 at St. Agnes, Cornwall after the banns were read for three weeks. [3] Mary Nicholas was born in County Cornwall on 24 August 1811 and baptized at St. Agnes, Cornwall, on 19 September 1811 to parents, Edward and Susanna Nicholas. [4] Here is a map of the area of St. Agnes. The Davey family was living in the area of Mount Hawke (at the lower edge of th...

52 Ancestors (2020) – Week 13: Nearly Forgotten “Three Sons Named Edward”

This is my third year working on this year-long prompt, hosted by Amy Johnson Crow. I will write each week in one of my two blogs, either Mam-ma’s Southern Family or at My Trails Into the Past . I have enjoyed writing about my children’s ancestors in new and exciting ways. According to a bible record for the Thomas & Mary Davey family, there were three sons named Edward Davey. [1] Edward Nicholas Davey was born May 1837 in Constantine, Cornwall and died in infancy. Edward Davey was born 18 April 1838 in Cork, Ireland. Edward N. Davey, III was born April 1842 in Bedminister, England. Of the fifteen children born to Mary and Thomas, only seven lived to adulthood.  These three sons were not part of that list. I have not seen the copy of the bible page, only the extraction done by a granddaughter of Thomas and Mary.  It is likely the bible passed on to their son Thomas Nicholas (1835-1924) and then to Mary “Marie” Davey Korn (1877-1948). The image of the...

Monday Genea-pourri, Week of September 3-9, 2018

Genealogists are great at documenting our ancestors’ lives but not so great documenting our own. I’ll write about what I’ve been doing the past week. This idea came from Randy Seaver of Genea-Musing, who started this meme. It has been nearly a month since my last Genea-pourri post. My husband and I went to England and Wales where we visited with a niece and her husband, toured Stonehenge, Blenheim Palace, Salisbury Cathedral, and Old Sarum before heading to Cornwall and Wales. In Wales we had dinner with online genealogy friend, Hilary Gadsby. It was a fun trip and took me nearly 5 days to recover from jetlag! Hilary and me in Llandudno Genealogy On the trip, I did do some research in two facilities in Cornwall. The first in Truro was the Family History Centre. Volunteer, Vivian, helped me at the computer and I got familiar with some Cornish record sites. Now I will join the society so I have access again. I forgot to take a photo of the place though. The second place wa...

Treasure Chest Thursday - Thomas Davey & Mary Nicholas Marriage

I have recently found the marriage banns (the announcement of the intent to marry) and marriage record for my husband's 2nd great-grandparents, Thomas Davey & Mary Nicholas at FamilySearch.org.  I knew the location of their marriage from the transcription of the Davey Family bible. [1]  The bible was dated 1859, published in Cincinnati, Ohio, so was purchased and filled out after they arrived in the United States.  Besides the marriage date, this bible lists the birth dates of the children.  Their son, Thomas N. Davey added notes on 28 Nov 1902 about the births and deaths of Thomas & Mary. Thomas Davey and Mary Nicholas were married in St. Agnes Parish in Cornwall County, England.  The bible stated the date as 23 Feb 1832.  However, I did not find the marriage on that date.  First let's look at the marriage banns: "E ngland, Cornwall Parish Registers, 1538-2010," www.familysearch.org : accessed 16 May 2012, citing Marriage Banns 1788-1...
