Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - Your Plans to Travel for Onsite Genealogy Research

It's  Saturday Night  - time for more  Genealogy Fun! Our mission from Randy Seaver of Genea-Musing is to: 1)  Do you have plans to travel to do onsite genealogy research?  [Thank you to Linda Stufflebean for suggesting topics!] Here’s mine: I have lots of on-site research that I would love to do. There are none planned for the near future, so these are on the back burner: Research trip to Texas . I would visit Comanche, Erath, and Rockwall counties as well as the NARA facility in Fort Worth and the state archives in Austin to see if there are more records besides what has been digitized by FamilySearch. I would also visit libraries and archives in the area. I made a trip to Stephenville in the 1990s with my grandmother and we visited family and toured the area, but I did hardly any research besides taking photos at cemeteries. Research trip to Kansas & Missouri . My friend Jacqueline and I are planning this trip. Besides NARA Kansas C...

Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- What Search/Research Did You Do Last Week?

It's  Saturday Night  - time for more  Genealogy Fun! Your mission, should you decide to accept it (cue the Mission Impossible music here) is to: 1)  What genealogy search/research did you do last week?  Did you have a research goal or plan?  Tell us about one or more search/research session. Here’s mine: I have done a lot of genealogy research and writing these past two weeks. My download folder has several Word documents of beginning writeups. The first project is locating all of the newspaper articles that I can find of the Gleeson/Gleason family in Le Mars, which is located in Plymouth County, Iowa. The University of Northern Iowa, Rod Library has digital newspapers from many Iowan cities on their website. The website is searchable and the pages or...

It's Saturday Night - time for more Genealogy Fun! Our mission from Randy Seaver of Genea-Musing is to: 1)  What excites you about genealogy research?  What part of performing genealogy and family history research really excites you - what keeps you coming back day after day? Here’s mine: Generally, I spend four to five hours a day on some type of genealogy. Some days more, some days less. I have “completed” much of the genealogy of my children’s ancestors up to the five generations and nearly finished up to six, with a couple of exceptions: research in Counties Cork and Tipperary, and a Swedish line. Besides the direct ancestors, I have spent a lot of time researching collateral family members in each generation, at least by a generation or two. Any research that I do now is mostly filling in details about land, probate, and tax records as I write biographies of the family. As new digital images come online, I replace digital for paper copies in my files. I have...
