SNGF -- How Are You Telling Your Own Life Story?

Calling all Genea-Musings Fans: It's Saturday Night again - Time for some more Genealogy Fun!! Randy Seaver of Genea-Musings has our assignment for tonight.. 1)   How are you telling your own life story?  Who have you shared it with?  What do you hope to do in the future?   Here's mine: Well, on 4 November 2023, Randy asked us a similar question and my post about that is here. I have also blogged about my childhood many times, most of the posts are Saturday Night Genealogy Fun posts. Early Childhood Memories Elementary School Memories On 26 December 2023, I wrote a post with the start of the story of my life . One of my goals this year is to work on it more. I am sure I have some other blog posts I can use to fill in parts of my story. I am very thankful for Randy to give us prompts to write about ourselves, as well as our ancestors. Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- Have You Written/Made Genealogy Books?

Calling all Genea-Musings Fans: It's  Saturday Night  again - Time for some more  Genealogy Fun!!   Our assignment from Randy Seaver of Genea-Musings is to: 1)   Have you written or made a genealogy or family history book for your family, for eBooks, or for book publication?  How did you do it? Here's mine : Yes, I have written genealogy books about my family. The first ones started small–a few pages stapled together. Later I wrote more pages and put the results in binders to hand out. Finally, after getting a wonderful photo album of the Gleeson family, I put together a longer genealogy of the Gleeson, Tierney, Sullivan, and Hork families so I could use the photos. I sent out a survey to my siblings, father, his sisters, and my cousins, so I would have information to add about the current generations. I also asked my cousins about their memories of Nana. I made five copies, had Kinkos bind them for me, and gave them to my father and hi...

52 Ancestors: Week 34--Chosen Family—The Gleeson Family of Ontario, South Dakota, and Oregon

This is my third year working on this year-long prompt, hosted by Amy Johnson Crow. I will write each week in one of my two blogs, either Mam-ma’s Southern Family or at My Trails into the Past. I have enjoyed writing about my children’s ancestors in new and exciting ways. I am choosing the Gleeson Family, from my father’s maternal line, to write about this week. This family was the first one I chose to write a book about in 2004. It started with receiving a photo album that Muriel Martha Gilbert, daughter of Mary Martha Gleeson and Warren Edmond Gilbert, put together of her Tierney grandparents and great-aunts and uncles, and of her Gleeson parents and their children. It is in a beautifully leather-bound album. Most of the photos are photo cards, taken in the late 1800s, some in Canada and some in South Dakota. Many of the photos are labeled in an index in the front. There are missing photos, where they are listed in the index but the photos do not appear in the album. ...

Goal Setting: What I Accomplished in 2019 and Hope to Accomplish in 2020

One of the main goals I had accomplished by the end of 2018 was submitting my portfolio to the Board for the Certification of Genealogists and becoming certified. It was a major accomplishment and I thought would lead to more opportunities in the new year. However, during 2019, I had no new major clients and research projects, but did have many clients who needed quick record retrievals. I also did not have many speaking engagements. By looking back on what I did accomplish, I was still very active with genealogy throughout the year. I would say, except for the days when I was traveling with family, I spent at least an hour on genealogy, either researching my own family, writing about the research, or learning from blog posts and webinars given by other genealogists. Client Work: 5 document retrieval clients, one very steady 1 record transcription client 1 deed research client 1 phone consultation client Education: Attended SLIG, taking “Advanced Southern R...

Monday Genea-pourri, Week of January 28-February 3, 2019

Genealogists are great at documenting our ancestors’ lives but not so great documenting our own. I’ll write about what I’ve been doing the past week. This idea came from Randy Seaver of Genea-Musing, who started this meme. Genealogy Blog Writing : I wrote the following blog posts this week: 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks For week 5, I wrote about my first trip to Sutro Library viewing census records and finding my grandfather’s family. This trip hooked me for life. Saturday Night Genealogy Fun : We were to write about Super Bowl LIII and about our favorite teams. I wrote instead about the San Francisco Giants.   Webinars/Study Groups Attended I attended three webinars week by Family Tree Webinars: Family Gatherings: Dragging Genealogy Information Out of Your Family by Melissa Barker You Can Do This: Photo Organizing and Preservation by Thomas MacEntee Focused Research VS Information Overload by DearMyrtle & Cousin Russ and participated in one study...
