Time for some more Genealogy Fun!!
Our assignment from Randy Seaver of Genea-Musings is to:
1) Which ancestor of yours married the most times? [This may be interesting for some GeneaBloggers!]
[thank you to Linda Stufflebean for suggesting this topic!]
Here's mine:
The question asked about ancestors, so I will focus only on
direct ancestors, as it is easier to browse looking for the number of known
marriages. There was no need to look on my father’s side, as they were all Roman
Catholics and married only once.
On my mother’s side, her grandfather, Thomas Newton Johnston, married three times. The first marriage was to her grandmother, Nell Hutson, on 6 June 1907 in Comanche County, Texas.[1] Nell died on 14 July 1919.[2]
He married next, Zilpha E. Buford (nee Morris) on 12 December 1931 at Stephenville, Erath County, Texas.[3] This was the grandmother my mother remembered. She was called Mama Zip. She died on 8 July 1947 in Stephenville.[4]
Lastly, he married Mrs. Rose Rushing (nee Jones) on 4 December 1948 in Hico, Erath County.[5] She survived Tom, as he died on 20 Feb 1951 in Stephenville.[6]
I’m sure I have other individuals in my database that
married more than three times, but I cannot easily locate them in RootsMagic,
at least I don’t know how to.

Randy couldn't find a way in RM either, although he did on MyHeritage. When I looked there, it only showed tow not in my direct line, so I skipped them and went with my favorite black sheep, Isaac Sturgell, who is my husband's 2X great grandfather. Three marriages isn't that unusual since the mortality rate was higher than today.
ReplyDeleteI have found one divorce and a remarriage. My direct lines are just boring.
DeleteI guess all the family tree database programmers never thought people would want to look up how many times their relatives had married, but for some reason MyHeritage thought of it. I agree three marriages isn't that bad, and it would have been possible for Roman Catholics to remarry after the death of a spouse.
ReplyDeleteThat is true about Catholics, but I don't have any of that either.
DeleteMama Zip is such a fun and easy name for a child to call a grandmother.
