Outside activities included two trips to the History Center, phenology at the Meadow, a party with the Wednesday Walkers, and lunch with friends.
Genealogy
Genealogy Volunteer/Work:
I opened the History Center on Tuesday and went again on Saturday. We came up
with a plan on how to process the Davies collection. Then the board sponsored a
holiday party for the volunteers. On Wednesday, I volunteered at the OFSC and
had a nice conversation with Rudy, the director. I hope to teach some classes
in 2026. On Thursday, I took minutes at the historical society’s board meeting.
Genealogy Meetings: There were no meetings this week.
Genealogy Writing/Research: I spent a couple of days researching my father-in-law’s cousin, Dorothy Davey Borst. I was happy to locate information about her marriage to Gerrit Borst and learn about her musical performances as a child Springfield, Missouri. I also did some research in the Davey and Colby families in Illinois. I now know where Thomas Davey lived in Illinois before moving to Indiana, as stated in his obituary. Thank you, full-text search, FamilySearch!

Music
was her Joy and Passion
For the theme of “musical,” I highlighted the
life of my father-in-law, George Gorrell’s first cousin, Dorothy Davey Borst,
who played the piano and organ, and sang. Highlighted on 52 Ancestors.
Applying
Context to my Ancestor’s Stories
For Webinar Wednesday, I wrote about a resource I
found to add context to my farming ancestors who settled in the plains states.
I watched Eva Holmes’s webinar sponsored by BCG called “Social Context and the
Kinship Determination Project (KDP).”
SNGF– Your 2025 “Dear Genea-Santa” Letter
I asked Santa to help me discover the
relationship between the Selmans and the Hoyt and Brack families, as well as
finding Sam Johnston’s parents.

I met Nancy and Terry
in Walnut Creek on Monday for lunch. We always mean to speak German but somehow
it doesn’t last past a sentence or two.
No hike this week, except for a short walk around a pond at Turtle Creek. We met other Wednesday Walkers at a member’s home for a holiday party.
I am reading:
- Ghosts of Greenglass House
by Kate Milford
- The Fourth Division: Its Services and Achievements in the World War by Christian Albert Back & Henry Noble Hall
Photos for this week. Some miscellaneous shots from the neighborhood walk.
Genealogists are great at documenting our
ancestors’ lives, but not so great at documenting our own. I’ll write about
what I’ve been doing the past week. This idea came from Randy Seaver of
Genea-Musing, who started this meme.
