SNGF-- A Genealogy Day in Your Life

Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:

It's Saturday Night again -

Time for some more Genealogy Fun!!

Our assignment from Randy Seaver of Genea-Musings is to:

1)  How was your genealogy day?  Tell us about it - what genealogy-related activities did you do today, yesterday, or another day this past week? Researching, summarizing, transcribing, analyzing, writing, etc.

Here's mine:
I shall also select Friday, March 13, 2026.

My day started at 8 a.m. with a writing accountability group where we get together to write for an hour on whatever genealogy topic we are working on. I set up the meeting but no one came. I started a new article about full-text searching for George Wilson Lancaster at FamilySearch.

A 10 a.m., I joined the first session of the Writing for Discovery course I’m taking where we had 90 minutes of writing time. We first explained what we’re working on, then we wrote leaving our cameras on, and then checked in at the end at 11:30. I continued working on my George W. Lancaster search and recording I had started at 8 a.m. Our first session was about good notetaking and this process of finding a document and taking notes was perfect. I search systematically by name variation and by county in Texas. I first write the citation, then extract or abstract the information found in the document (most were deeds), then write my comments about the document and what I found.

I had a 30-minute break where I got some lunch of mackerel with crackers.

At 12 p.m., I joined the Airtable class online. Our instructor was ill, but Kimberly ran the session and we had a chance to discuss any frustrations, or problems we were having with Airtable. Some of us shared our bases and what we were trying to do. I got a few suggestions. I think it best to create an Airtable base from scratch than trying to bring in a spreadsheet document.

From 1:30 p.m. to about 4 p.m., I continued working on my Airtable file, trying to consolidate the people table from the multiple of names carried over.

Adelle sent me the Zoom host instructions so I can start the Zoom for the CGS class on Saturday. The login was the same but the password had changed. It had been a while since I was a host. Because I’m going to be at the train club Saturday for our open house, I’d need to take a break to host this meeting. Hopefully I can find a quiet place to hide.

After a quick dinner of salad, I headed for the Train Club for our monthly board and business meetings where I took minutes. There was extra stuff presented and voted on, that I didn’t get home until after 10 p.m.

My husband had popcorn waiting for me, so we watched this week’s Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage and Ghosts before going to bed.

I think it was a very productive day. The results of the full-text search will be completed before the weekend is over and will make a good blog post for my 12 for ’16 series on my other blog, Mam-ma’s Southern Family since the current working family is Lancaster and is my grandmother's ancestors.

  1. You were really really busy yesterday with tons of genealogy. I'm writing about today's much slower paced activities than yours.
