Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:
It's Saturday Night again
-
Time for some more Genealogy Fun!!
Our assignment from Randy Seaver of Genea-Musings, is to:
1) How did you observe or celebrate the Bicentennial of America's Founding on 4 July 1976?
2) What were you doing on that day? Did you or your family attend any special events to mark America's 200th birthday?
Thank you to Marian B. Wood for this week's SNGF challenge!
Here's mine:
Like Randy, I do not have any recollection of the
Bicentennial day in 1976. I was still attending college and living at home.
Except for the year BART was on strike during the summer, I always attended
summer quarter.
Since it was Sunday, I may have attended church in the morning. My parents may have had a barbeque for dinner. I could have taken my two younger sisters to watch the fireworks held from Heather Farm Park. If so, we climbed up on the hill behind John Muir Hospital. I do remember doing that, I just do not remember which year it was.
Checking the local newspaper, there were the activities available to residents of Walnut Creek on the Fourth of July. I did not attend any unless it was the fireworks show from afar.
I have no idea how we’ll spend it this year. In past years, I have participated in the parade in our town of Martinez with the Friends of Alhambra Creek group. I always watch the movie 1776. I’ll likely be watching some Wimbledon tennis, which usually happens around our 4th.

It's funny that none of us have memories from that day. I had a good reason, though!
