This is my second year working on this year-long
prompt, hosted by Amy Johnson Crow. I will write each week
in one of my two blogs, either Mam-ma’s Southern Family or at My Trails Into the Past. I have enjoyed writing
about my children’s ancestors in new and exciting ways.
I am not named for any ancestor. I did not name
my children for any ancestors. Yet, they have many namesake ancestors. I named
both of my daughters before I had done any genealogy research. I have captured those ancestors here.
My daughter, Elizabeth Ann has nine ancestors
with her name:
- On her paternal side, Elizabeth Hocking is her fourth great-grandmother, who married James Davey in 1806. They are the parents of Thomas Davey, who immigrated to the US in 1852.
- Also Marie Elisabetha Welsch, who married Philippe Ludwig Emerich, and were the parents of Dorothea Carolina Emerich Wollenweber. Marie is her fifth great-grandmother and lived in Kusel in the Pfalz.
- On her maternal side, Eliza A. Rodgers, her third great-grandmother married Ebenezer Loveless in 1871 in Chattooga County, Georgia.
- Also Maria Elisabeth Döbener, from Oberhundem, Germany, who married Johann Joseph Trösster. She was her fourth great-grandmother.
- Elizabeth McCormack was her fourth great-grandmother from South Carolina, who married Samuel Johnston and traveled to Comanche County, Texas.
- Another fourth great-grandmother, Elizabeth Nixon, married Jesse Loveless in Greenville County, South Carolina, and they moved to Faulkner County, Arkansas.
- A fifth great-grandmother, Elizabeth S. Neel, came from Kentucky and married Ellis W. Lancaster. They moved to Kaufman County, Texas and were the parents of George W. Lancaster.
- Another fifth great-grandmother was Elizabeth Rebecca Young, from Georgia. She married Dempsey Welch and they settled in Copiah County, Mississippi.
- A sixth great-grandmother, Elizabeth Whitfield, married John Kethley. They lived in North Carolina, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Their daughter, Ann married John Coor.
My younger daughter, Margaret Celeste has the
following five ancestors with her name:
- On her paternal side, she has a third great-grandmother, Philappina Margaretha Voehringer, was from Unterhausen, Wurttemberg (Germany). She married Ludwig Wilhelm Wollenweber in Louisville, Kentucky. Their daughter, Matilda, married Frederick H. Davey.
- On her maternal side, there is her third great-grandmother, Margaret Tierney, born in Ontario, Canada. She married John Gleeson, and they came to the US in 1879 to Dakota Territory.
- Her fifth great-grandmother, Margaret Egan, married Denis Tierney. We know nothing about her.
- Another fifth great-grandmother was Lydia Margaret with an unknown last name. She was born in Kentucky and died in 1912 in Rockwall, Texas. She married the minister, Nathan H. O. Polly.
- A seventh great-grandmother, Margitt, married Arthur Coor. Nothing else is known of her at this time.
However, there are some collateral members in our tree named
Margaret:
- a second cousin, Margaret (named withheld due to living)
- a first cousin, 3 times removed, Marguerite M Gleeson
- a first cousin, twice removed, Margaret Patterson
- a second great-grandaunt, Margaret Tierney
- Margaret Broadstreet, a second cousin, 3 times removed
