Genealogy

Genealogy Volunteer/Work:
I volunteered at the History Center four times this week. Tuesday was my regular day. On Wednesday, I covered part of the day for our Executive Director, who was ill. Friday, I met up with John to discuss the next steps in our processing of the collections. Saturday, I met up with Maxine. Tasks I did during the week were entering more books into the library database, completing research requests, and on Saturday, I helped a researcher locate info to document a business that moved.

On Tuesday, I took minutes for the Sonoma County Genealogical Society board meeting and met up with the president on Saturday to give him the president’s binder.

Genealogy Meetings: I attended two meetings: the Military SIG with Kinseekers, and with Jacqueline before she left on her vacation.

Genealogy Writing/Research: I searched in Newspapers.com for more articles about Rev. Father Albert M. Hork, my great-grandfather’s brother. I searched under Albert M. Hork, Father Hork, Rev. Hork, and Fr. Hork and found articles in Missouri, Arkansas, Oregon, and Brooklyn. His timeline is coming along well. I should be able to write his story soon.

Wartime: What the 4th Engineers Did in Europe For the theme of wartime, I gathered information from first-hand accounts to add more context to the 4th Engineer’s story. This was the regiment my great-uncle, Jack C Sullivan, served with.

SNGF – Which Blog Article Helped, Touched, and/or Impressed You? This theme was interesting. We were to select articles from some past “Best of Genea-Blogs” posts. I found three that I commented on.

Crafting Citations from Images Found with FamilySearch Full-Text Search. I gave step-by-step instructions for creating citations when finding a document through full-text search. It takes a couple of different screens to locate all the data needed. This post was popular with Friday’s Family History Finds, crème de la crème, and Best of Genea-Blogs.

Photos for this week. Some photos taken during our vacation.

Genealogists are great at documenting our ancestors’ lives, but not so great at documenting our own. I’ll write about what I’ve been doing the past week. This idea came from Randy Seaver of Genea-Musing, who started this meme.
