It's Saturday Night again -
Our assignment from Randy
Seaver of Genea-Musings is to:
1) You were born and given a forename (first name
and middle name(?)) and a surname on your birth certificate. What were they?
2) How many persons are on the FamilySearch Family Tree (with an exact search for a birth name) with your first and, separately, your surname? Are there any other persons with your complete first-middle-surname?
3) How many matches do you have when you search the FamilySearch Historical Records (with an exact search for a name) with your first name, and separately, with your surname? Are there any other persons with your complete first-middle-surname?
4) How many people are in the Public Ancestry Member Tree collection (with an exact search for a name) with your first name and, separately, your surname? Are there any other persons with your complete first-middle-surname?
5) How many people are in the Ancestry Historical Records Collections (with an exact search for a name) with your first name and, separately, your surname? Are there any other persons with your complete first-middle-surname?
Here’s mine:
1. I was born Lisa Suzanne Hork.
2. On the FamilySearch Family Tree, no returns for Lisa Hork. I got nearly 49 million hits for Lisa, and over 10,000 hits for Hork, which surprised me.
3. On FamilySearch Record Search, I got 3 hits for my full or initialed middle name. One for birth, one for marriage, and one for residence. Since when is Martinez in Riverside Co? That is from a Public Records database.
4. On Ancestry Pubic Member Trees, there are no hits for my full name (I’m alive!). There are over 91 million people with the first name of Lisa, and over 117,000 hits with the surname Hork. I found my dad in someone else’s tree. The tree owner is a DNA match through my John Tierney/Mary Ann Murray line.
5. On Ancestry Record Search, I marked exact on first and last name and still got records not meeting the criteria. There were 8 hits pertaining to me, Lisa Hork: marriage index, newspaper birth announcement, birth index, and 5 yearbook hits, though some were duplicates. There were only 4 for Lisa Suzanne Hork. There are nearly 20 million hits for Lisa, and 38,000 hits for Hork.
Conclusion
My first name is pretty
common, but my last name is not.
