Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- Where Were You in 2000?

Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:

It's Saturday Night again -

time for some more Genealogy Fun!!

Here is our assignment from Randy Seaver of Genea-Musing:

1)  Do you recall what you were doing in 2000?  Family, school, work, hobbies, technology, genealogy, vacations, etc?  If this doesn't work for you, what about your parents?

2)  Tell us in a blog post of your own, in a comment on this blog, or in a Facebook post.

In 2000, I was 46 years old. I remember thinking as a ten-year-old, that I would be super old when the new century came and wondered if I would even be alive! Now forty-six seems so young.

I was working at Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) as an Employee Development Specialist, Train Operations. I trained mostly the new hires. Norman worked at County Quarry Products. During the year, we had our 20th anniversary. Most likely we had dinner at one of the restaurants in town.

Our two daughters, Elizabeth and Margaret were twelve and ten, respectively. Both girls were active in Girl Scouts and I was their leaders. We also attended Diablo Day Camp during the summer, where I volunteered. They attended their first sleep-away camp that summer. They were beginning to play soccer and most likely we followed their games during the fall. They also went to gymnastic classes weekly and did a show in June.

I was doing genealogy, mostly by writing letters. I researched a few times a year at Sutro Library or at the National Archives branch in San Bruno. Internet research was done mostly at USGenWeb or Rootsweb looking at indexes. I was on AOL at the time with dial-up service, I think.

I also worked the National Model Railroad Association’s convention in San Jose. We called it the 21st Century Limited and had a very successful convention.

Cousins from Kansas City visited that summer. One vacation we took was to San Diego, where we visited the zoo and Legoland. The girls and I took a ride up in a private plane.

Now, how do I know this? I don’t keep a journal, but I label my photos by date, so looked through some of them to give me ideas of our activities.
