Our assignment from Randy
Seaver tonight:
Here is your assignment, should you decide to accept it (you
ARE reading this, so I assume that you really want to play along - cue the
Mission Impossible music!):
1) Where did your ancestral families reside in 1920? Do you know their addresses or
locations? Have you visited the home?
Who was enumerated in the 1920 in each family?
Are any of your ancestral families missing from the 1920 U.S. Census
even if they should be in the census?
2) Put it in your own
blog post, in a comment to this post, or in a Facebook post. Please leave a link in a comment to this
post.
Here’s mine:
Interesting idea to think about which of our ancestors were
alive in 1920, about one hundred years ago.
I write about both my ancestors and my husband’s, so really, I’m writing
about my daughter’s ancestors.
Grandfather, George J. Gorrell, was born in 1913, so
he was alive, living with his parents, Joseph Norman Gorrell and Matilda
Pearl Davey in Webb City, Jasper Co, Missouri.[1]
His sisters, Bertha M, Ada May, and Clara C also lived at 320 South Roane St.
Great-grandfather, Nils Arthur Nathaniel Nilsen, born
1894, lived with his wife, Agnes Hilma Lundquist in Oakland, Alameda
County, California, at 1917 73rd Avenue.[2]
Their son, Arnold lived with them.
Great-grandfather, William Cyril Hork, born 1899,
lived with his mother, Julia Ann Sievert in Hamilton, Ravalli County,
Montana.[3]
His older brother, Albert and older sister, Carrie, also lived there.
Great-grandmother, Anna M. Sullivan, born 1892, lived
with her sister, Loretta, and Loretta’s husband, James Leroy Patterson in
Anaconda, Deer Lodge County, Montana.[4]
Great-grandfather, Tom J Johnston, born 1912, lived
with his father, Thomas N. Johnston in Comanche, Comanche County, Texas.
Also in the household were his older sisters, Beryl and Mildred, and younger
brothers, Halwynn and Luther.[5]
Great-grandmother, Pansy Louise Lancaster, born 1913,
lived with her parents, George Warren Lancaster and Lela Ann Loveless
in Erath County, Texas.[6]
2x-great-grandfather, Amos Gorrell, b. 1837, lived in
Blackwater, Cooper Co, Missouri all alone.[7]
2x-great-grandfather, Nils Malkom Nilsen, b. 1865,
lived in San Pedro, Los Angeles Co, California with his wife, Hulda
Charlotte Anderson-Carlson, and their children, Ernes, Berger, and Esther.[8]
2x-great-grandfather, Per Alfred Lundquist, b. 1856,
lived in Hilmar, Merced Co, California with his wife, Mathilda Lovisa
Eriksson-Holm, and sons, John Edward & Davis W.[9]
2x-great-grandfather, John H. Sullivan, b. 1854, likely
lived in Anaconda, Deer Lodge Co, Montana. He has not been found in the 1920
census.
3x-great-grandfather, Margaret Tierney, b. 1835,
lived in Portland, Multnomah Co, Oregon at the Home for the Aged. She was also
not found in the 1920 census.
3x-great-grandfather, Rueben M. Johnston, b. 1841,
lived in Comanche Co, Texas with his son, Oral D, Ninnie E, and Lloyd S.[10]
3x-great-grandfather, Peter H. Hutson, b. 1853, lived
in Comanche Co, Texas with his daughter, Willie M and her husband Luther Wyatt,
and grandchildren, Clarence, Ernest, Fay, Nedra, and Joseph.[11]
3x-great-grandfather, William Carl Lancaster, b.
1873, lived in Erath Co, Texas, with his wife, Martha J. Coor, and their
children, Earl and Pearl.[12]
3x-great-grandfather, A. Ebenezer Loveless, b. 1851,
lived in Erath Co, Texas, with his second wife, Mallissa Settle.[13]
So, a total of 25 of my daughter’s ancestors that were alive in 1920, as follows:

8 great-grandparents

I thought Marcia had done well with 4 great greats, but you had 6 great greats! Good health in your lines!
ReplyDeleteI was pretty surprised at the number I had. Still, there were spouses who had died young that would have made the number larger.
