Monday Genea-pourri, Week of September 20–26, 2021

I have completed eighty (80) weeks of semi- lock down due to Covid-19. This past week we were part of a tour aboard private rail cars and as long as we were together on the train, we could remain maskless. However, inside stores and restaurants and train stations, we wore our masks.

Genealogy

Blog Writing: I wrote both the 52 Ancestor and the Saturday Night Genealogy Fun blogs this week. Last week’s post about Amos’ diary and on the farm was highlighted in the Generations Café blog post.

52 Ancestors—Week 38: Fun & Games—Scrabble I wrote about my love of playing Scrabble with anyone who is willing to play.

Saturday Night Genealogy Fun – Your Great-Grandparents Locations. I wrote about the birth, marriage, and death dates and locations for my eight great-grandparents.

Online Study Groups & Meetings Attended:
Although I was on vacation, I managed to meet up with my AppGen partners for our weekly planning meeting and with three others in the Peer Group.

Volunteer & Own Work:
While traveling on the train, I did get in some time working on my census class lessons while we traveled from one location to another (ie. Chicago to Schenectady). I still have more to do, and hope to work on it next week while traveling from Chicago to Los Angeles.

Other:
This past week was spent on the Special Interest Tours to Vermont. We stopped first in Saratoga Springs for one night and walked around the area and park. Next we traveled to Rutland where we spent the night on our private cars in the train yard. We traveled up a line to Bellows Falls for lunch and then back to Chester to spend the night on our cars. Beautiful country going up over the mountain and back down. Was so close to New Hampshire, but alas, didn’t make it there. Lastly, we traveled to Burlington, where we spent two nights. We had a dinner cruise on Lake Champlain and spent the next day walking around Burlington shopping and looking at old historic buildings. Sunday we left, traveling on the private cars to Albany where we caught the Empire Service train to Penn Station. We’ll spend a week visiting children.

I’m reading the following books.

  • Death at La Fenice by Donna Leon—FINISHED!
  • The Cruelest Month by Louise Penny—half done but lost it at the hotel
  • Forty Acres and Maybe a Mule by Harriette Gillem Robinet

Photos for this week: Some shots from our trip.
