I have completed two hundred and fifty-nine (259) weeks of semi-lockdown due to Covid-19. My outside activities were a birding trip on Monday, a trip to the History Center on Tuesday, and a trip to Salt Lake City Wednesday through Saturday. I wore a mask in the airport, on the plane, and in super crowded rooms at RootsTech.
Genealogy
Genealogy Meetings:
Jacqueline and I met to discuss last-minute plans for our trip to Salt Lake City.
Genealogy Volunteer/Work:
At RootsTech, I volunteered at the BCG booth three times and was filmed for promo for the upcoming NGS conference. I did a lookup in microfilm at the FamilySearch Library for an acquaintance.
Genealogy Writing/Research:
I spent nearly two days at the FamilySearch Library, working on the Coor family in Erath County, Texas, and the Gorrell family in Jackson County, Ohio. I love using the three-monitor set up at the library. I have a system of how I capture all the information from full-text searches. First, I create the citation and must capture the information in several places. I was looking mostly at deeds, so I extracted the details and transcribed the land descriptions before moving on to the next deed. I also downloaded the pages to a thumb drive. It takes time for each one, but I managed to get 50 documents extracted and downloaded in the two days. The Erath County documents intrigued me and I may use them for the neighborhood class I’m taking.
Blog Posts Published:
For the theme of “sibling,” I wrote about the sister of my 3x-great-grandmother.
I wrote about the classes I attended and the people I met.
I wrote about the classes I attended and the things I did.
I listed some of the classes I intend to attend in person at RootsTech.
Webinars/Courses Viewed:
Jacqueline and I met in Salt Lake City for RootsTech. I arrived early and she came in the late afternoon, so we met at the library, then headed to the convention center to check in. After checking in at the Hilton, we walked to Harmon’s Grocery for food supplies and dinner. I attended three classes on Thursday and Friday. After too much stimulation from the conference, I decided to spend Saturday in the library until it was time to go to the airport.
Other:
On Monday, I attended the Mt. Diablo Bird Alliance field trip to Valle Vista and we saw over 35 different bird species. My three best sights were the California Thrasher, the juvenile Bald Eagle, and the Brown Creeper.
I am reading:

The Quest for Annie Moore of Ellis Island by Megan Smolenyak
Miss Merkel: Mord in der Uckermark by David Safier (for German class—up to Chap 23)
Photos for this week.
Genealogists are great at documenting our ancestors’ lives but not so great at documenting our own. I’ll write about what I’ve been doing the past week. This idea came from Randy Seaver of Genea-Musing, who started this meme.
