Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:
It's Saturday Night again -
Time for some more Genealogy Fun!!
Our assignment from Randy Seaver of Genea-Musings is to:
1) Legacy Family Tree Webinars provides free and/or subscription education to genealogists every week. What were your favorite webinars over, say, the past 3 months?
2) Tell us about your favorite Family Tree Webinars in your own blog post, in a comment on this post, or in a Facebook post. Please leave a link on this post if you write your own post.
Here's mine:
To start, because I am a Certified Genealogist, I have a free account with Legacy Family Tree Webinars. But even before being certified, I was a member because I valued the many webinars found on their website and that membership has access to the handouts. I used to wait for the 50% off sale to renew and that’s a real bargain.
I keep track of the webinars I view in an Excel spreadsheet. This helps me now answer this question as I can look back to the webinars I have recently viewed. My absolute favorite webinars were those 24 that Elizabeth Shown Mills did over 2023 and 2024. Genealogists will have access to her wonderful genealogical advice on methodology, citations, and analysis.
I also watch the webinars sponsored by the Board for the Certification of Genealogists (BCG). These webinars are more advanced, speaking on the GPS, methodology, and other topics.
So, what were my favorites from the past six months (I haven’t been watching as many because being super busy with other things)?
- The Everleigh Sisters: A Case Study in Conflict Resolution by Karen Stanbury. Great webinar on sorting out people who lie about themselves.
- Shootout at the Rhododendron Lodge: Reconstructing Life-Changing Events by Judy G. Russell. This was the best story told by one of the best story-tellers.
- Dear Me: Writing Research Reports to Yourself by Yvette Hoitink. Yvette’s method of writing research reports is easy to do and very rewarding.
- Information Overload-Effective Project Planning, Research, Data Management & Analysis by Elizabeth Shown Mills. She showed how keeping good records of your research is important in analyzing and solving tough research problems.

Legacy Family Tree Webinars was fortunate to have Elizabeth Shown Mills booked for 2 entire years. Her talks were all excellent.
ReplyDeleteYes, they were.
DeleteI didn't know that CG's had complimentary subscriptions to Legacy Family Tree Webinars. That's a nice benefit. You can go back and rewatch any presentation at any time.
ReplyDeleteI didn't either. It's because of their relationship with the BCG-sponsored webinars.
