SNGF -- What Plans Do You Have To Pass On Your Genealogy Work?

Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:
It's Saturday Night again -
Time for some more Genealogy Fun!!
Our assignment from Randy Seaver of Genea-Musings is to:

1)  What plans, or potential plans, do you have to pass your genealogy work to relatives and/or descendants, or posterity?

Here's mine:
My children at this time are not interested in genealogy research although they might be interested in any books I might write. I do have family letters and other historical documents.

My goal is to do the following:

I will put files of papers, historical papers, letters, etc. into purchased archival boxes.  Photos are being put in various-sized boxes for storage. Larger archive boxes will house some artifacts such as photo albums and scrapbooks. I will label each box well and create a sheet of possible places the boxes could be donated to if my heirs don’t want to keep them. Some of these archives are located in places where the ancestors originated from. I will pre-arrange the possibility of the donation.

Of the many artifacts we have, some small and some large, I will create a Shutterfly book describing each item. This way, my heirs will know the history of the item which will help them decide whether to keep, give away, or sell.

I will write family histories starting with each of my 8 great-grandparents. Some of these may be used for my BCG renewal.

I hope this will help preserve some of the research for the future. I will instruct my heirs to turn my private tree on Ancestry to public.

Comments

  1. You have a well thought-out plan. That will help a lot. And maybe by that time at least one of your children will be interested.

  2. Excellent plan and you are using tech to keep your info all up to date.
