Outside activities included phenology, gym, hike, Oakland FamilySearch Center, and a memorial.
Genealogy
Genealogy Volunteer/Work:
This week, I volunteered at the History Center twice, first with John and
Traci, and then my regular shift, where I accessioned some items. I put out a
press release on the new BCG Executive committee. I did my volunteer stint at
the Oakland FamilySearch Center. Still pretty quiet in the evenings with few
wanting help.
Genealogy Meetings:
I attended the NARA SIG and shared how
I asked Elizabeth Shown Mills on her Evidence Explained website how to cite a
document found on the NARA site. On Friday, Jacqueline and I met. Sunday, I
attended a book club meeting. We’re reading White Trash and will discuss
it over a few weeks.
Genealogy Writing/Research:
This week I continued researching and writing about the Sullivan family. Except
for the 52 Ancestors post, the rest are about Sullivans.
Blog Posts Published:
Some Homemade Items Made by George J
Gorrell
For this week’s 52 Ancestors’
theme of “homemade,” I wrote about a couple of items my father-in-law made in
high school that found our way to us via a cousin.
Jerry & Mary Sullivan’s Family – 12 for
‘26
The first of two posts for 12
for ’26 is about the children of Jerry and Mary Sullivan.
SNGF: An Ancestor Who Lived Through a
Major Historical Event
I wrote about my great-uncle, Jack C.
Sullivan, who served during WWI with the 4th Engineers.
The Teaching Life of Anna M. Sullivan in
Montana 1914-1922
The second 12 for ’26 post is
about my grandmother who was a school teacher in Montana. This is a first of
two parts, for she taught school later in California.
Courses Attended:
I attended the SLIG course, Independence and Identity: 250 Years of
Opportunity, Diversity, and Belonging in America, coordinated by Katherine R.
Willson. This was week 6 of 10.
Webinars Viewed:
None this week.
Other:
I went to the gym all three days this
week. The knee brace has been helpful.
Saturday, I attended a memorial service for Frank Markovich, a fellow model railroader. It was a very nice service. Besides being a master model railroader, he was an awesome musician.
I am reading:
- The Liberation Line: The untold story of how
American Engineering and ingenuity won World War II by Christian Wolmar
- Das große Giggler
Geheimnis by Roddy Doyle
- White Trash: The 400-Year Untold History of Class in America by Nancy Isenberg
Photos for this week. Elaine and I visited the Skyline Wilderness Park in Napa, viewing the native plant garden and hiking one of the trails. Hope to revisit someday when the plants are blooming.
Genealogists are great at documenting our ancestors’ lives, but not so great at documenting our own. I’ll write about what I’ve been doing the past week. This idea came from Randy Seaver of Genea-Musing, who started this meme.
