Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:
It's Saturday Night
again -
Time for some more Genealogy Fun!!
Our assignment from Randy
Seaver of Genea-Musings is to:
1) Find an ancestor who has a life event (e.g, born, baptized, married, died or buried) on Hallowe'en (31 October).
2) Tell us about him or her -- who were his or her parents, spouses, children, occupation, residences, etc.
NOTE: No luck? How about a relative? Or a famous person?
Here's mine:
I also have RootsMagic 12 and ran the “On This Day” report,
selecting Oct 31, family events, and color coding. I only got a half page of
returns, but I don’t’ have as many people in my database as Randy does.

The color coding helped me see my direct ancestors and there are only four events. Since October was the month I tackled the Sievert family, I shall write quickly about Julia Ann Sievert.
Julia Ann Sievert was born on 31 October 1854 in Joliet, Will County, Illinois, to parents Vincent Sievert and Susanna Radunz. She married Johan Anton “John” Hork at St. John the Baptist Church on 6 June 1872. He was a tailor and they lived in many towns across the country before settling in Hamilton, Ravalli County, Montana: Aurora and Joliet, Illinois; Muskegon, Grand Rapids, and Detroit, Michigan; St. Louis, Missouri; Stuart, Iowa; and Portland, Oregon.
She and John had ten children who all grew to adulthood, though two died in their early twenties. Only five married and four had children giving her sixteen grandchildren. Only one group of grandchildren lived in Hamilton, while one daughter moved to Missoula, one to Tacoma, Washington, and one son to Los Angeles. Newspaper articles do mention Julia visiting her children in these places.
Life with John was difficult as he was a drinker and always seemed to be on the move. She must have put her foot down once they got to Montana, for she never moved again. He died in 1906. That same year, she went back to Joliet to visit her mother. I wrote about that here.
Newspaper stories about her social life included being part of the Catholic Sewing Circle and the Altar Society, her visits to her daughters in Tacoma and Missoula, and parties she entertained in her home.
She died on 4 August 1928 in Hamilton at the age of 73,
leaving six children and fourteen grandchildren. My father and his cousin, Margie,
hadn’t been born yet.
This is the last installment for the Sievert Family in 12 for '26.

You have quite a few Halloween ties in your list. I haven't decided if a Halloween birthday would be fun or not. I think probably not because everyone is celebrating anyway. A birthday would get lost in the fun.
ReplyDeleteYour comment makes me wonder when Halloween really started being celebrated as we now know it. I imagine in Julia's life, especially as a Catholic, it wasn't celebrated as such.
