1950 Census Prep for Norman’s Paternal Relatives

I have completed the prep for the upcoming release of the 1950 federal census on April 1. This last set are for my husband's paternal relatives.

I need to know the address of each person in order to locate them in specific Enumeration Districts. At first, we will be browsing the records until indexes are completed. To find their address, I used city directories, voter registrations, newspaper articles, and other records that give addresses.

These are the direct ancestors who I expect to find on my mother’s side of the family. By using the Unified Census ED Finder on the Steve Morse One Step site, I located the Enumeration District (ED) numbers for the following addresses. Those on farms, will be more troublesome and I will likely have to wait for an index. NARA is supposed to have an index, using an application that can “read” handwriting. We’ll see how well it works on April 1.

Below is the list of his ancestors, their address and the possible ED they will be in.

The website also has the maps which can help in finding the ED numbers. Here is the map where George J. Gorrell lived on Portola Way. The house he lived on belonged to Mrs. Hardin and was next to the Western Pacific Railroad yard.

The purple star is the approximate location of George J Gorrell's address

  1. Lisa, you are really ready! I think I'm going to do what you did and sort my list by state, not just by ED and name.
